Fisher Investments added a new video to its YouTube channel presenting a data-driven, historical perspective on US debt. The video, entitled “Three Key Questions About US Debt,” examines the US debt load from different historical frames of reference. For example, to determine whether the US has “too much debt,” the video revisits the British Empire’s debt during the 18th and 19th centuries. Another chart answers the question, “can the US afford its debt?” by putting the US’s debt interest costs in historical context. And, to determine whether China or another foreign nation owns a significant portion of the federal government’s debt, another chart breaks down the amount of debt held by the US and other countries.
Fisher Investments has been providing investor education through its YouTube channel since 2010. Recent clips address the health of the European banking system, US economic data and consumer credit trends, and unemployment. Other videos present timely market commentary from Fisher Investments’ Investment Policy Committee. In the most recent of these, “Fisher Investments Capital Markets Update: Summer 2011,” the five-person committee, including CEO and Chief Investment Officer Ken Fisher, discussed the differences between corrections and bear markets.
The new video is one of several mediums in which Fisher Investments discusses US debt. The video is based on a recent infographic, which is available on Fisher Investments’ Flickr channel. Additional content on the topic can be found at Fisher investments’ financial news and commentary website, marketminder.com. CEO Ken Fisher also analyzes US debt in detail in three of his best-selling books, 2006’s The Only Three Questions That Count, 2010’s Debunkery and his latest, 2011’s Market’s Never Forget (But People Do).
